What is a Site Plan

Even before a set of architectural drawings is created, it’s necessary to determine if a building will fit on a piece of real estate. This is where a site plan comes into play. No complete set of architectural plans is really complete without the site plan. A site plan, also known as a plot plan, is a drawing representing a piece of property where a building is going to be placed or remodeled.

What’s included in a Site Plan

Boundaries: The boundary is the measurement and angles of lines that defines a piece of real estate. These are measured by using coordinates of a line with their distance from one point to the other. For instance if a lines coordinates are N32d15’32”E ~ 325.0’, it means the line is started in a north easterly section that is angled thirty two degrees, fifteen minutes, thirty two seconds by a distance of three hundred twenty five feet. After all the boundary lines are complete it should represent a closed area.

Building Footprint: This is the representation or drawing of the perimeter of the structure that is to be built on the property. This will include porches, and decks attached to the house.

Setbacks and Easements: Setbacks are the lines where local municipalities have ordered that a structure cannot cross and easements are where utilities like sewer or power lines cross the properties area.

Roadways: These are the roads that are touching the property. If no road is accessible from the land a right of way must exist so that the owner can have access to their property.

Driveways and Walkways: These show where vehicle access, parking and foot access are located in relation to the house.

Utility Locations: This is where access to services like water, power, sewer, or septic tanks are shown on the drawings.

Topography: A representation of the surface features of a piece of property, indicating their relative positions and heights of the ground.

A Review Of The Drafting 101 Courses

If you have an interest in drawing things like houses or mechanical stuff, you have no doubt searched on Google or Yahoo for “how to draw house plans” or “how to draw woodworking drawings” and found House Plan Drafting 101 or Mechanical Drafting 101. These were written by a veteran architectural designer and general draftsman named Tim Davis. This fellow is from the old south and his charming way of explaining things is very evident in his work.

I enrolled in both of these courses and have nothing really bad to say about them at all. Actually I have nothing but praise. It was hard sometimes to get things clear in my head by that wasn’t my instructors fault! Tim put forth a very simple, and straightforward set of instructions that would help anyone involved in learning architectural or mechanical drawing to understand the subject being taught.

I did learn that drawing on a drafting board is a fading art. Computer Aided Drafting or CAD for short, is the way of the world now. Tim however suggested learning on the drafting board also, simply because of the way it developed discipline.

The instructor spent a considerable amount of time teaching the architectural drafting student to look for omissions and mistakes, and went into depth about every aspect needed to put out a quality finished product. Once I completed all of these very under priced courses, I was equipped to draw house plans that were more than suitable to build from and submit to a building inspector.

He also spent just as much time in the mechanical drawing course as he did in the architectural to again make sure that the students drawings were complete and error free. When I had a question, I simply went to his message board, posted my question and very quickly received an answer to my problem. Tim is a minister and pastor now and uses the proceeds of the courses to fund an online ministry called The Parsons Corner.

A Career in Drafting

No matter how bad the economy gets, there is always a need for drafters. Drafters are the ones who create technical construction drawings from information given to them by professionals like architects, engineers, designers, and surveyors. Drafters create drawings and plans on a drafting board or Computer Aided Drafting and Design program. These drawings are then used by craftsmen to build various projects or products.

Below are a few of the fields drafters are need in:

Architecture:
Architectural drafters prepare drawings of buildings, and houses.

Engineering and Civil:
These drafters prepare drawings for roadways, structural drawings for large commercial buildings, topographical surveys, steel fabrication drawings, etc.

Survey:
Survey drafters work for surveyors laying out land boundaries, topography, building and structure locations, etc.

Industrial:
These drafters are used in manufacturing plant layout, product illustration and cut sheet drawings, assembly drawings, etc.

Tim Davis, a fully trained general drafter with 20 plus years experience, has created a virtual drafting school where many of these drafting disciplines are taught in a easy to understand format at http://101info.org.

Types of SPAM and how to avoid or cure it

Personally, I have never, ever sent out any type of advertising email of any sort out of respect for others privacy. I figure if they want to find me and my sites, they can do that on search engines and directories or from the byline on the articles I write. But I have been plagued over the years by spam and spammers because of the past advertising I've placed on the web. That's a no brainer for everyone that has a presence on the web. There are quite a few ways to fight it, but oft times it seems like a loosing battle.

Spam method number one and it's cure:

Many of you have used auto submitters to advertise your site. Some of you probably made the mistake of using you main email address to submit it with. Some disreputable submission sites will harvest these emails and compile a list of suckers. Your email then is sold on that list to thousands of spammers. Big mistake.

If you have a website, most likely you have a way to create multiple email accounts. The best thing to do is to create a email address like submit@whateveryourdomainis.com and after a month of submitting your ads, delete that one and make a new one like submit2@whateveryourdomainis.com. Next month, repeat the process. So then you have actually created a problem for the ones spamming you. In order to stop all the bounce backs, they will have to edit their lists. It may not be a major task, but even if you cause the spammer a moments aggravation, you've succeeded.

Spam method number two and it's cure:

Spammers love message boards. Especially the guys who don't speak English. There seems to be a quintessential group of nationalities who just love to fill your message board with virility pills and pornography from Russia, Croatia, and Korea to name a few.

I personally have four message boards used for various reasons. One is for my online architectural drafting classes at http://101info.org/drafting/. I'll check the board daily and wouldn't you know it, a spammer has joined and filled the threads with images that would make some sailors blush.

The cure can come in several forms. The best but most inconvenient for me is to require their registration be approved by me before they can post. This however takes up quite a bit of time on my part. The second best is to keep an eye on your forums and when they register, ban their back sides. They usually are easy to spot because of the user names they use like Amequelet, PraigeZoori, or Detoxon. Banning on my SMF message board usually take a second or two and they have been stopped in their tracks because of IP blocking. After a while most spammer groups will give up on their efforts.

If your message board has a calendar, you might better set the permissions to admin only for posting to it. Spammers love calendars also. On my Christian fellowship board I found over 600 posts with URL and key words that were eating bandwidth like candy.

Spam method number three and it's cure:

Do you have an article directory? I have one called E-Articles R US. Spammers love this method too. But not in the submitting of articles. No, actually what they do is make multiple drafts of a particular article, stuff them with key words and url's, then leave them in draft form where they are actually picked up by search engines. Of my three article directories, my general directory was plagued by this. When I figured out what they were doing, there was over 5,000 drafts in my database. The solution I've found is to disable drafts on your directory.

Tim Davis is the webmaster for many various sites including House Plan Drafting 101 at http://houseplandrafting101.com where I teach students how to draw house plans over the internet.

Right now I'm trying an experiment that I hope will draw spammers away from my sites. It is a message board devoted to spammers and the junk they want to post at http://101info.org/spam/

Don’t Be Deceived, Ask Questions

There is a popular saying; If you don't ask, how are you going to know? You've probably heard it many times. It's a true saying to a major degree in that knowledge has to be sought. We aren't born with it. And if you don't seek knowledge from the right source, you are more apt to be deceived.

I've run a Christian Question and Answer web site since 1995 and have found that those things I've learned over the years do not seem to be common knowledge to the majority of those asking.

Prophecy seems to be one of the number one areas that people have questions about. For instance, did you know that the Bible tells us that in the last days, danger will be everywhere. It then goes on to tell us why. It says this will happen because men will love themselves more than anything else. They will be jealous of what others have and will boast about themselves wanting all the attention on them and no where else. They will also be proud. So proud that when help is needed, they'll believe they can handle everything themselves.

The Bible then says that they will speak terrible things against God. That children will be totally disobedient to parents, and unthankful as if everything is owed to them and will be unholy. Folks will ignore natural affection and they'll do things that are totally against nature. They'll be trucebreakers, false accusers, not happy or content in any situation and unable to control their emotions, fierce, hating those that are trying to do good.

The Bible also states prophesies that in those last days, there won't be many loyalties because they are traitors and have a high mind about everything. Then it caps off the prophecy with everyone loving pleasure more than God and gaining all kinds of knowledge but never realizing the truth.

The greatest pleasure I have is to answer questions concerning the scriptures. My name is Tim Davis, otherwise known as The Parson. If you have a question about the Bible and want a plain, no nonsense and direct answer, go to http://101info.org/oldpath and submit any question you may have. It will be a blessing for both of us.

The End Of Time

eschatology n : the branch of theology that is concerned with such final things as death and judgment; heaven and hell; the end of the world. In the Christian world, there are four basic doctrines or teachings concerning the End Times. Below is a description of each.

The Amillennial brethren are the ones who consider the 1000 year reign of the Lord and Savior to be spiritual in nature and not literal and that the Church will be called out in the end of the world. They hold to the scriptures that say there is no accounting of time with God.

The Post Tribulational group believes the Seven Year Tribulation will take place and then the calling out (rapture) of the Church by the Lord Jesus Christ takes place followed by a literal 1000 year reign of Christ on this earth.

The Mid Tribulational brethren believe that the Seven Year Tribulation takes place with the calling out (rapture) of the Church by the Lord Jesus Christ after the first 3 1/2 years followed by a literal 1000 year reign of Christ on this earth.

Last and the newest school of eschatological thought is the Pre Millennial or Pre Tribulational brethren who believe the calling out (rapture) of the Church by the Lord Jesus Christ takes place first and then a Seven Year Tribulational Period followed by a literal 1000 year reign of Christ on this earth. These brethren are also know as dispensationalists.

As a young man, I was brought up in an Amillennial church where the belief was that the church would be taken out when God destroyed this earth to make a new Heaven and a new earth. I had agonized for years over the order of events that were to take place and after studying the scriptures could come to one conclusion. Christ will not leave his bride in the path of Gods wrath. (destruction) You see, the Lord told us there will be a great tribulation, (Matthew:24) such as the world has never seen and the question in my mind is would the church be here when this happened?

There is quite a bit of controversy surrounding the millennial doctrines. The Pre-Trib's arguing with the Posts, the Posts with the Mid's, and the Am's with the Pre's. During the 1970's and 1980's there were many a church split over these schools of thought. Why? Was it because people were using their own wisdom to divide the word of God? Not all of them can be right and the Holy Spirit didn't cause certain people to believe one thing and some another. God is not the author of confusion and the debate that should actually be a reasoning session continues to this day.

Tim Davis is the webmaster for “The Old Pathways” message board which has been newly opened on the web. The url is http://101info.org/oldpath/ and it’s purpose is to defend the faith and the scriptures for what they really are which I truly believe is the truth. We welcome you and will treat you with kindness and respect there.

Are You Afraid To Back Up Your Beliefs?

It isn't limited to the Christian world. There are many who believe various things about how we were created or came to be. There are those, including myself who believe wholly in the biblical account of creation. Then there are some who believe that Darwinism (which I believe is a religion in it's self) is the only plausible answer. In the realm of how the universe came to be there are those that there was this Big Bang. On my end of the spectrum, who exactly lit the fuse? I believe with conviction it was the Lord God Almighty.

I have always believed that if you don't stand for something, you'll most certainly fall for anything. Forgive the cliché, but if "any way" will do, "no way" will do just as well. In the world I see only two possibilities. There is only truth or falsehood. There is no in between. I don't care how much you care to philosophize the subject. And man, not God has decided to make his own answers, which quite frankly has caused even more confusion over who God is, or more importantly, who He isn't.

Man also has created his own pathways to heaven, refusing to realize there is but one way to heaven and that way is by the Grace of God through Christ Jesus.

My own belief's are based on faith and also on historical evidence being that my own heritage is that of the Anabaptist (Baptist) lineage and education. We have been around since the end of the first century and believed basically the same since and have been called by many names, howbeit none were chosen by us.

So in reference to the title of this article, would you consider your beliefs strong enough to be examined by the scripture and by history?

The Great Bible Deception

By the end of the first century, the New Testament had been completed and distributed among the churches in Sardis, Laodicea, Philadelphia, Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamos, and the largest concentration in Antioch. These were the letters (epistles) and Gospels written by the Apostles and Luke the physician. The language used to write these letters and epistles was the common Greek language of the day.

Once these were completed and diligently copied, around 120 AD, some of the brethren from the Waldeness valley of France then translated these into the common or “vulgar” Latin language and distributed around the Roman empire.

Later in the 1600’s, the letters from Antioch know as the “Received Text” was translated in their entirety into the English language giving us the King James Bible. The King James translators also used the Waldenessian Bible to check their translation so that we really have the originals translated into the English language without error.

Now, as for that deception about which this article is titled, at or around 230-240 AD, Alexandrian scholars got their hands on the New Testament in Antioch and took them back to their universities, where a man by the name of Origen Adamantius, c. 185–254 AD began to translate them into the Classic Greek of the day.

To give you some insight into Origens way of thinking, there was a paper he wrote called the “Allegorical Exegesis”. In this paper we find that Origen didn’t believe that God really meant what He said through the Apostles and wanted to enlighten the Christian world about what God really meant to say. I’m not sure about you but that kind of thinking really bothers me. Doesn’t it you?

Once Origen had completed his translation there was a complete mess. First thing I want you to clearly understand is that the Alexandrian Text from Origen was not the original letters and Gospels. They were a translation from the common Greek into the Classic Greek. And not only this but were translated using Origens twisted belief that God didn’t mean what He said.

With this simple understanding it should be quite easy to realize why there are verses missing and meanings changed in the newer versions of the Bible like the New International Version, the New King James, and the Holman Christian Standard bibles. They were translated using the Alexandrian Text or more precisely from the Nestle Text translated by Westcott and Hort.

The deception is that you and I are being lied to when publishers say they are translating their new bibles from more reliable texts. In reality they are translated from a translation that is purely corrupt.

Getting With It

Luke 14:16 Then said he unto him, A certain man made a great supper, and bade many: 14:17 And sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready. 14:18 And they all with one consent began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me excused. 14:19 And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them: I pray thee have me excused. 14:20: And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come. 14:21 So that servant came, and shewed his lord these things. Then the master of the house being angry said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor, and the maimed, and the halt, and the blind. 14:22 And the servant said, Lord, it is done as thou hast commanded, and yet there is room. 14:23 And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled. 14:24 For I say unto you, That none of those men which were bidden shall taste of my supper. 14:25 And there went great multitudes with him: and he turned, and said unto them, 14:26 If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple. 14:27 And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.

We are living in a day where evil is called good and good is called evil. How could this happen?

* How can the killing of unborn babies be considered a right and not a sin?
* How is is that a man can commit murder, then be brought into trial and acquitted because of his popularity?
* How can it be that we can elect a man into the highest office of this country, full of lies and open sin and stand behind him?
* How is it that we stand by silent while our young men and women live together in sin and say that they are just seeing if it will work out between them?
* Why is it that our Savior can't even be mentioned in our school systems today because some may be offended?

Could it be that the church isn't doing it's job? Could it be that if the church were out spreading the good news there would be less evil and more good? Yes!!!!!! Are we not to compel the lost to come into the house of the Lord? What was the Savior trying to tell us in Luke 14?

These, out in the world, for the most part haven't heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ. They really for the most part don't even understand the Law! If they don't understand the Law which shows our guilt and our need of a Savior, how can we as Christians hold them accountable for evil deeds? Romans 4:14 For if they which are of the law be heirs, faith is made void, and the promise made of none effect: 4:15 Because the law worketh wrath: for where no law is, there is no transgression.

They must be compelled to come into the house of the Lord so that they can hear the Gospel. Being non spiritual, they can't understand those things that are Spiritual! They must hear the preached Word of God! Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. 10:14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? 10:15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

Once the Holy Spirit gets hold of these lost souls and points out to them that they must be saved, then, when they accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior, we will have one less unborn baby killer, one less juror that will acquit a guilty man, one more voter that will vote against an unGodly man, one less one that will live in fornication or adultery, even the witness in our public schools will return because we have another soldier in the Lords Army!

So you would say to me, "brother Tim, I am unable to get out and compel them to come into the House of the Lord!" Are you completely cut off from the world? Then PRAY. James 5:16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. and also, Luke 10:2 Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.

How bout this one? "brother Tim, my friends will pick on me and I'll loose them, I'm afraid!" Hebrews 13:5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

Look, the lost are going to remain lost unless we be obedient to the Lord and either witness or get them to the preached Word! Their blood will be on our hands unless we are faithful! Romans 14:12 So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.

Do you know the plan of Salvation? Do you have the Word of God embedded in you soul? Jesus is the Only way to escape hell! John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. Are you saved? Do you realize that you are lost and on your way to a devils hell?

* Did you know that you are not righteous and are unable to come to God yourself: Romans 3:10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: & Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
* You have to admit you are a sinner and confess that you need Jesus: Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10:10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
* Ask Jesus into your heart as your Lord and Savior: Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

Romans:12:21 Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.

Architectural House Plans and Land Considerations

There are two approaches to architectural design. The most popular is the 'inside-out' approach although it's not the most reasonable method. This is where the one designing the home will take into consideration the rooms his or her client wants and arranges them into a floor plan layout. Then once the home is designed, they try to find a lot or plot of property to fit the plan. This method sometimes causes the prospective home owner and their designer to alter the plan, adding work and extra time needed to complete the finished drawings.

The best method by far is to design the home into the shape of the property or the outside-in approach. This way you wind up with a what you see is what you get (wysiwyg) method with very few surprises and less alteration of the plan making less headaches to the design process.

So in essence, a house shouldn't be totally designed from the inside out but rather with the property constraints in mind. Once this is done it is far easier to get the home you desire on the piece of land you prefer.

Placing A Message Board On Your ArticleMS Directory

A message board can be a powerful tool for article writers and for the webmasters who are running article directories. The process is quite simple actually. It uses a process called I-Frames where basically a browsing window is placed on your HTML page inside of ArticleMS.

First thing you need to do is to go into the Admin section of your directory and select "Settings" from the top menu. Go to the "Global Settings" page which should be the first one to pop up on your browser and look for the selection "Use WYSIWYG (Admin Panel)". This box should be unchecked and then click the "Update" button.

Then choose "Pages" from your top menu. Click "Create new page" and name it Forum or Message Board. Then copy and paste the following code into the "Content" section of the Edit Page form.

Click Here To Get The Code:

Where you see the URL for my board, "http://101info.org/discussions/", place your message boards URL. Or better yet, leave mine there and we can share the board. The More the Better. If you leave my board in the I-Frame, just send me an email to let me know and I'll add your website to the list who is hosting it. That in effect will give you more exposure and a quality back link to your site. Also place this article somewhere on your website for others to share.

This may work on other Article Directory programs but as of yet I haven't given that a try. ArticleMS is the only one I know that it works on.

Enjoy.

Getting the Debt Collector Off Your Case

Some time ago I received a letter from a debt collector who said I owed a huge debt to their client. This really blew my mind because I don't have a debt with their client except my usual monthly bill. Nevertheless, they persisted in sending harassing letters.

I have found out that as a U.S. citizen, I have the right to tell them to take a hike and leave me alone. Below is the letter I sent that stops the harassment once and for all and gets the debt collector out of the picture so that you can deal with the one who you originally have a problem with.

Debt Collectors,

When exactly did I enter into a contract that allowed your company to meddle in my personal affairs? I don't remember signing such a document, much less even agreeing to such an action. Please produce this document if it exists and send me a copy of it.

Nevertheless, I dispute this alleged debt even exists and cannot remember ever making such a debt of the outlandish amount claimed by you or the one you claim to represent. Therefore, please stay out of my personal affairs. If I have a problem with the Telephone Company, then let the Telephone Company handle it.

If you or an agent for your company have made any negative report using my name and personal information to a credit reporting agency, I demand you immediately remove it and return any and all documentation referring to me back to the Telephone Company.

Furthermore, you are not to contact me in any way in the future except by mail to let me know you are complying with my demand.

Thank You,
Herman Munster

I am no way offering legal advice here but it never hurts to share something that helped me get rid of a headache. Once the collector turns the debt back over to the one who originally started the trouble in the first place, you have the ability to clear it up without having to deal with Debt Collector harassment.

I Want To Draw My Own House Plans. Where Do I Start?

To begin there are some things you will need to know. Depending on how much detail your builder and building inspector require, the minimum set of plans should include the floor plan, exterior elevations, foundation or basement plan, and a roof plan drawn to scale.

A scale is nothing more than a shrunken ruler so that 1' -0" (12 inches) would be 1/4 inch long on your drawing. Here then is an example. If we use the scale and draw an eight foot (8') line. In reality the line is only Two inches (2") long on the paper.

What's in a set of house plans:

There's a Floor Plan that's a view of a house you would see if you took a knife and sliced the house to see the walls, windows, doors, etc. from the top, middle way down the walls. This is also called a dimensional plan. Typically all floor plans are drawn at the scale of one quarter inch equals one foot and zero inches. (1/4" = 1'- 0") It should include all the measurements of the walls, windows, and door locations, door and window sizes, stair locations, room labels, locations of exposed beams, cased opening sizes and locations, bathroom layout showing sink vanity, tub or shower, and toilet, kitchen cabinets with appliances & sink fixtures, and construction notes.

Many floor plans include the electrical symbols telling us where the receptacles, light switches, light fixtures, ceiling fans, cable connections, telephone jacks, and meter base are located in the house. These can be included in the dimensional plan but many drafters place it on a separate drawing page.

The Exterior Elevations or views include all four (4) aspects of the house. They are the front, left, rear, & right drawn also at one quarter inch equals one foot and zero inches (1/4" = 1' - 0") scale. Then there are some plans that have the front elevation drawn at 1/4" scale and then the left, rear & right at one eight inch equals one foot and zero inches. (1/8" = 1' - 0") On these views you find notes about what type of siding or veneer, the roof pitch (angles) of the various roofs, grade locations, finished floor & ceiling locations, and a roof plan showing the house from the top view. The roof plan is usually drawn at 1/8" = 1' - 0" scale or 1/16" = 1' - 0" to save space on the drawing.

The Foundation or Basement Plan is the same type as the floor plan showing wall types, footing sizes, floor joist or truss locations, support beams, pilasters or piers, and ventilation vents & openings. The foundation or basement plan is also a dimensional type drawing. Most of these plans are drawn at the scale of 1/4" = 1'- 0".

If the plan is more detailed, then we would see sectional details showing total breakdown of the materials used to construct the home and how they are put together, HVAC (heating and air conditioning) plan, plumbing plan, and cabinet elevations. Even more involved plans would show the types of mouldings, pediments, & trims in greater detail as well.

Building a New Home

If you have never had a new home built, it can be a daunting task. In order to start the process you need to know what's involved. I'm hoping this article can give you at least an idea of what's involved.

1. When selecting the right property for your home you'll need to make yourself a check list of what you are wanting in a lot. If you don't choose the right location, it could ruin the entire experience.

2. Spend as much time as possible in the design stage of your home. Sit with your spouse and create a dream sheet or sketch of what you're wanting. Make sure there are enough bathrooms for your family and special area's for things like crafts and hobbies. Bedroom locations and sizes are very important also. Consider what areas of the house will be used for the entire family. Is there an adequate Family Room, Kitchen and Dining area? One major aspect of a home that is overlooked is storage. Make sure this also is one of your considerations.

3. Take your sketches or dream sheet to a qualified Architect, Designer or Home Drafter and see what ideas they may have that you have missed. Then hire the one you feel most comfortable in dealing with. It will be their job to make sure your home meets building codes and requirements and flows the way you intend it to.

4. Interview as many contractors as possible. Check their references and ask to see some of their completed jobs. Once you decide on a contractor, make sure that you have one special set of plans for you and your contractor to sign off on. As construction proceeds and changes are made, note them on that special set of plans and both of you initial the change so that when the job is complete, it will be reflected on the set of drawings so there are no surprises. Try not to take possession of the new home until all is complete and you are satisfied with the craftsmanship.

5. If you have to go through a plan review with a HMO or building inspector, either your designer or contractor can handle this for you. It's probably best to have to one who drew the plans handle this process as whatever changes that have to be made with the plans won't have to pass through a middle man.

Material Take-Off Lists from a House Plan

Ok, so you've purchased a piece of property and have a home plan and want to figure out the cost of building it. So what next? Maybe you are looking to get a job with a building contractor and material lists will be one of the things you'll need to know how to do. Well, here in a nut shell is how some of it's done. Most all that you need is a good understanding of math and a little patients.

For instance, let's say you want to know how many 2 inch x 4 inch studs are going into the walls. If you look at the details of your plans, you'll find out how far your studs are spaced. Most are at 16 inches on center. If this be the case, then say you have a 10 foot wall. There is 12 inches in a foot so simple math would tell you that there is 120 inches in 10 feet. Divide 120 inches by 16 inches and you come up with 7 and 1/2 or 7.5. Meaning you have seven and one half studs in the wall. Round that off to 8 and you have it.

How about the bottom and top plates? These are 2 inch x 4 inch pieces of lumber too. Looking at your drawing section you find that you have 1 - 2 inch x 4 inch bottom plate and 2 - 2 inch x 4 inch top plates. So you have 3 - 2 inch x 4 inch plates and the wall is 10 feet long so you will need 30 feet of 2 inch x 4 inch lumber.

Are you seeing how it works so far? Good! Lets take it to the next step. How about floor decking? If your room is 10 foot wide by 10 feet long that is 100 square feet. Right? You multiply the width by the depth. Sheets of plywood come in 4 foot by 8 feet sheets which makes 32 square feet. Divide 100 square feet by 32 square feet and you have 3 and 1/8th sheets or 4 sheets.

The same could be done for the exterior wall sheathing which is either OSB (particle board) or plywood. Lets say you have a 32 foot exterior wall that is 8 feet tall. The OSB or plywood comes as you know in 4 feet by 8 foot sheets. You could either divide the square footage of the wall, but we already know the wall is 8 feet high, or divide 32 feet which is the length of the wall by 4 feet, and you would come up with 8 sheets.

Of course the process involves counting windows and doors and their sizes, cabinet sizes and quantities, Light fixtures, plumbing fixtures, roof trusses and coverings, etc. And I know these were actually simple illustrations and it can be more complex, but this is the general method of material take-off.

Reading House Plans for Real Estate Appraisal

Especially if you are appraising a newer home, the possibilities are good that an architectural plan is available for the home. If so, you need to know what you are looking at. In this article, I plan to break down the basic sheets usually found in a set of house blueprints.

The Floor Plan
This is the page that lets you know what the layout of the house looks like. A house plan is basically a drawing that depicts the house if it were cut with a knife on a horizontal plane allowing you to look past the roof down into the rooms. There should be over all dimensions, room names, fixture labels, door and window sizes and styles, etc. Sometimes these plans include an electrical floor plan which is the floor plan with the electrical fixture locations.

The Elevations
You will probably find a sheet with all the exterior views of the home also which are called elevations. These will probably have the types of siding, roof pitches (angles), shutter types, grade heights (ground levels), trim types, and so on.

Foundation or Basement Plan
If the plan is complete there should be either a foundation or basement plan. If so, you can find out what the house was built on and what types of joists or trusses are supporting it.

HVAC and Plumbing Plan
This plan is particularly handy as you can see how the duct work is layed out for the Heating and air conditioning. You will also be able to tell what type of plumbing pipes have been used and what sizes.

Sectional Drawing and Special Details
A sectional drawing is where we cut an imaginary line vertically through the house to expose the elements that create the structure. With these drawings you can tell any special materials or methods were used in the construction of the home.

Beginner's Guide to Understanding a Set of House Plans

Depending on how much detail your builder or local building inspector requires, the minimum set of plans should include the floor plan, exterior elevations, foundation or basement plan, and a roof plan drawn to scale.

Just so you'll know, a scale is nothing more than a shrunken ruler so that 1' -0" (12 inches) is now 1/4 inch long as far as your drawing is concerned. So here then is an example. If we use a scale to draw an 8' line. in reality the line is only 2 inches long on the paper in real life.

So let's see what's included in a set of plans:

A Floor Plan is a view of a house that would be seen if you were to take a knife and slice the house to see the walls, windows, doors, etc. from the top about mid ways down the walls. This is also called the dimensional plan. Most all floor plans are drawn at the scale of 1/4" = 1'- 0". It should include all the dimensions (measurements) of the wall, window, and door locations, door and window sizes, stair locations, room labels, locations of exposed beams, cased opening sizes and locations, bathroom layout showing sink vanity, tub, and toilet, kitchen cabinets with appliances & sink fixtures, and construction notes.

Some floor plans include the electrical symbols showing the receptacles, light switches, light fixtures, ceiling fans, cable connections, telephone jacks, and meter base locations. These can be included in the dimensional plan but many opt to have it on a separate drawing.

The Exterior Elevations include all four (4) views of the home which are front, left, rear, & right drawn also at 1/4" = 1' - 0" scale. The are some plans that have the front elevation drawn at 1/4" scale and then the left, rear & right at 1/8" = 1' - 0" On these views are notes about what type of siding or veneer, the roof pitches (angles), grade locations, finished floor & ceiling locations, and a roof plan showing the house from the top view. The roof plan is usually drawn at 1/8" = 1' - 0" scale or 1/16" = 1' - 0".

If the plan is more detailed, then we would see sectional details showing the wall and roof construction of the home, HVAC plan, plumbing plan, and cabinet elevations. Even more involved plans would show the types of moldings, pediments, & trims in greater detail.

Having Your House Plans Professionally Drawn

If you're wanting to have a qualified professional draw your house plans, here are a few tips on what to provide the designer or architect with.

You have probably spent a great deal of time trying to find out what you are wanting. This is only natural as you are wanting your home to be not only functional but to fit your personal needs as well. Don't hesitate to sketch out ideas on grid paper. This is one of the best resources I've received from a client. Think about the size rooms you need as in most homes, each room is specialized with specific purposes. Think about porches and entrances, where you are wanting windows, then note them on your sketch.

If you have already selected a lot, obtain a survey, preferably with topography. A good survey should have existing utilities, right of ways, easements, and even setbacks on it. If not, then it's probably a good idea to hire a registered land surveyor to provide you with one. If the lot is in a subdivision, most likely this is already completed and available through the real estate agent or subdivision board.

As for the exterior of the home, spend time looking around your area at different homes or look in architecture magazines and books. Take photos or make photocopies of what you like and mark them with the things you liked. Hey, a picture paints a thousand words. Take care not to duplicate a copyrighted set of plans.

And make sure you tell them what your needs are as far as electrical. If they are drawing the electrical plan also, you may wind up with a generic electrical plan. Considerations there are ceiling fans and their locations, more outlets in specific areas, how much exterior lighting you are wanting, etc...

Some of my colleagues are probably going to not like this next paragraph. Oh well. If the truth hurts? I've seen many a future home owner not get what they are wanting in a home in place of what the professional wanted through artistic license. Not only for the fact that you are one paying the bill, but also for the fact that you are the one who inevitably has to live with the house after it's built. Stick to your guns about what you want. The only reason you wouldn't get what you're wanting is if it's either prohibited by code, physically impossible, or it just isn't in the budget.

Make sure that they spell out what you'll receive with your plan package from the beginning. That's generally the case if you're looking on the internet for the design professional. If they are wanting to be upfront with you, they will spell out on their web site what you will receive and generally how much it will cost.

Most of all, a bit of common sense would be not paying for the entire job until it's complete. If you make arrangements to pay one third or half up front, that's fine. But make sure you can see the finished product before you pay the final amount.

What is The Lords Supper?

The Lords Supper is a commandment from the Lord Jesus Christ himself! The Lord Jesus knew we would need to be reminded of His sacrifice becasue we tend to forget what it was really all about. We are to do this in remembrance of Him least we forget! This is symbol of the Death, & Burial of our Savior for our sins. Doing this in the Spirit will "keep" us in remembrance of the great sacrifice! "This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me."

Matthew 26:26 And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body. 26:27 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; 26:28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. 26:29 But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom.

Luke 22:15 And he said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer: 22:16 For I say unto you, I will not any more eat thereof, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God. 22:17 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves: 22:18 For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come. 22:19 And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me. 22:20 Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.

But now, if we partake of it unworthily (with unconfessed sin in our lives), it can be a great danger to the Saved!

1st Corinthians 11:23 For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread: 11:24 And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. 11:25 After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me. 11:26 For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come. 11:27 Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. 11:28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup. 11:29 For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body. 11:30 For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.

There are some who say that if we neglect partaking of the Lords Supper we cannot keep our Salvation. Rubbish! It is important to obey the Lord in our lives and this certainly is a commandment but the very act does not keep you saved. There is nothing we can do to keep ourselves Saved! That's already taken care of by our Lord and He will not let anyone or anything take us from Him. We are His if we are washed in the Blood!

* Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 2:9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
* John 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: 10:28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. 10:29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand. 10:30: I and my Father are one.

How to Use Articles to Promote Your Message and Ministry

Writing articles is a great way to be able to get out the message of Christ and of your ministry, and article marketing can be a great way to expand your influence, too. Christians in past ages clearly understood the power of the printed page and sought to use that tool regularly. For them, it was very costly and time consuming to write and copy materials. With the Internet, however, the cost of getting the message out to many is greatly reduced - and the same message can be seen again and again by people all over the world.

Article Marketing Works

Article marketing works because the average user of the Internet is looking for information. The good thing is that they can easily find it, too - as long as it is there for them to read. When you place articles out there for people to read, then people will be able to find it and will then be led to your Web site. Taking the time to write your articles correctly will go a long way to attract the attention and get the targeted traffic you want.

Articles Can Carry a Powerful Message to Many

Many a person has been able to find a comforting word or a strengthening word from something that had been committed to print. If you commit your message - or a part of it - to print, it can be a lasting blessing to many. Article writing and Christian article distributors should be considered to be a regular tool for ministries to get their message out. Christian article distributors especially will be able to help you reach a Christian readership.

Articles Keep on Working for You

With the economy not being in the best of shape, you want to try and keep your costs low. Article marketing is low cost but can still be very effective. Consistently adding new articles, with the right keywords, can keep the traffic coming for a long time.

Although you should use other methods with article marketing for the best results, your strategic marketing methods will not be all you want until you do add it. Submitting articles to article distributors is free, and your article will stay there for a long time - giving you, your message, and your ministry the exposure you need.

Article Marketing Can Easily Multiply Your Outreach

Depending on what you are trying to do with your article, you could find a good article multiplied all over the Internet - possibly even hundreds of times. Each time someone picks it up from an article distributor, they post it and your link along with it on to their own Web site. Soon, you will have quality links everywhere. The key here is that it needs to be an article that blesses people and has a clear message.

A very important part of article marketing is that you need to do some keyword searching to find out what keywords are best for your topic. A lack of this will mean not many will come - or the wrong people will come - it’s that simple. Also, when you submit your article to the article directory, be sure to write a Bio that will give people a reason to want to go to your Web site.
About the Author

We are looking for some really great articles in the near future from you. Article marketing works when you give people something worthwhile to read and you get their attention enough to make them click on your link. Let’s see some great material from you soon that will strengthen believers everywhere – and help get the gospel to those who need to hear. Visit PCIM Christian Articles

New Christian Article Directory Opens

Athens - PCIM Christian Articles has opened its doors recently and is now receiving Christian free articles for distribution. Because many Christian Webmasters need free content, and are looking for a way to promote their ministry or simply share some truth gained from the Bible, it is expected to help many believers. Since its purpose is the glory of God, it is looking to fulfill this theme in any article that it publishes.

PCIM Christian Articles is founded by Tim Davis, a pastor of a Baptist Church in Tennessee. Having his own ministry and business, too, he knows the value of using good Christian articles on the Internet and uses article marketing to get the message out.

Any article that will be displayed on this Christian article directory Web site will need to glorify the Lord in some way. Articles with a clear Christian message are welcome, and Pastor Davis is excited about the possibility of helping believers promote the Gospel and the message of Christ - as well as various ministries that are clearly Christian.

Christian ministries, pastors, evangelists, teachers, and other Christian individuals are invited to submit articles to PCIM Christian Articles that may be a blessing to others. Instructional articles are also welcome as long as they honor the Lord and are in agreement with the Web sites Statement of Faith.

All articles submitted will be available for others to take as free content and post it on their own Web site - along with the author's original live links. As the Web site grows, more and more believers will see the articles and be directed to the Web sites of the owners of the articles - which is what article marketing is all about.

Pastor Davis is looking for PCIM Christian Articles to grow fast. He has other popular Web sites, some of which are Christian, which will help bring traffic quickly. Others who submit their articles will also be helping build this new Christian community with an edifying purpose.

Pastor Davis also enjoys good clean humor - and so do many others. Humorous articles that are clean and in good taste will be welcome as well. Other articles that are more than welcome are those that focus on the Christian gospel, Christian theology, the Christian life, Christian beliefs, Bible studies, and more.

Writing services will also be offered at the Web site. This includes writing of articles, editing, or posting your articles. PCIM Christian Articles is waiting for your web content and articles to be posted there soon.

The Holy Speeding Ticket

I'm a police chaplain and also a part time police officer in a small rural town. There are some interesting stories that have taken place with this new duty as an officer. Here is one of them.

One evening while I was on community patrol, I happened to notice a four door sedan traveling through the town at what seemed a rather high rate of speed. When I check on the radar the car was traveling 52 mph in a 35 mph speed zone. One of my duties as part time officer is to enforce the speed laws, so on goes the blue lights.

After stopping and approaching the vehicle, I came to find this dear sweet grandmother type lady behind the wheel. I told her my name and that I had pulled her over for traveling 52 in a 35. What happened after that was nothing more than something to ponder on.

Chaplain: Ma'am, the reason I pulled you over was that you were speeding and........

Sweet Little Old Lady: But you don't understand young man, I just came from prayer meeting and I was being controlled by the Holy Spirit.

Chaplain: Thats good ma'am but the reason I pulled you over was............

Sweet Little Old Lady: Really sir, I was so much in the Spirit that I didn't have control.

Chaplain: So let me get this straight ma'am. You weren't in control of the vehicle and the Holy Spirit was guiding you and thats why you were speeding?

Sweet Little Old Lady: Yes, and I really don't think you understand young man. It wasn't my fault because I was totally under the control of the Holy Spirit.

Chaplain: But ma'am. You went past two speed limit signs that said 35 mph and ...............

Sweet Little Old Lady: But you really don't understand young man .....

Chaplain: (Interupting with a grin) Ma'am, I'm a pastor of a local Baptist church and chaplain of this police department!!! I do understand and what I under stand is this; That speed limit sign was placed there by the city. The city is what the bible calls the "powers that be". The Bible says to obey the powers that be! "Romans 13:1 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God." The Holy Spirit will not lie nor go against His Words. SO.......... may I see your drivers license, registration, & insurance please.

It's a pity people want to blame God for their goofs. That has got to be the only time that I have ever written a sweet little old lady a speeding ticket.

Woodworking Plans - What Should Be Included

When looking for a good woodworking plan there are a few things that need to be considered.

1. Is there a cut sheet and or material list? A cut sheet is the parts of the piece individually noted and dimensioned so that they can be properly fabricated. A material list is a shopping list so you know how much wood to by and what type.

2. Is there an overall picture of the finished product? In order to get a good idea of what the completed project will look like and how it is assembled there should be at least three views of the project. These would be the top, side, and end views. And are these views projected (lined up) so that they can be scaled and visualized during the construction?

3. Is there a fastener list? This isn't a top priority, but it is very helpful to know what screws, bolts, glue types, brads, or nail types go into the project.

4. Is it alterable? In other words can you easily modify it with the information given so that the piece will fit your needs if necessary.

5. Is the drafters name on it so that if you want them modified, he or she can be reached? This may be something you hadn't thought about but important none the less.

6. Is it printed on a readable size of paper and scale? If not you may not be able to make out the dimensions and notes. Is it supplied in an easy format to print such as a PDF?

Save Your Marriage Ladies and Gentlemen

Are you wanting to become a statistic? Well, if you allow your marriage to go down the tubes, that's exactly what’s going to happen. If your marriage ends, you will become one out three unions that end because one or both of you refuse to do the right thing.

Men, this may sound a little old fashioned but being a real man doesn't mean how much beer you can drink or how many conquests you can hide from your wife. Grow up my friend. A wife needs a strong husband that will love, protect and be faithful to her. She also needs someone who cares about her more than himself.

The largest mistake a young man makes when he gets married is expecting to have a play thing for the rest of his life. Big mistake sir. God created her as a help meet with whom you have become one with. She's meant to be the one who walks by your side and not your servant.

Ladies, this may sound a little old fashioned to you too but if your husband wants to be the man you crave, you need to support and encourage him. The biggest mistake a young bride makes is entering a marriage with the intent of changing him into what they expect him to be.

And here is the biggey. You two are going to grow older. Sooner or later each of you are going to show it. Don't fool yourself. Things are going to happen less frequently like sex. If she has had kids, don't be surprised if the little lady you married gets a bit more fluffy. It happens. Quit acting like it's her fault. That’s what happened with my darling wife. I just had to resolve myself that there was more to love. If she can loose the weight and is willing, you need to encourage her. He could use that type of encouragement too for that matter ma'am.

Marriage means the two of you are supposed to become one. Not only physically but also spiritually. There needs to be communication between you two, time spent together, and some re-sparking of that romance you probably thought you didn't need any more.

Stand together and be of one mind when it comes to raising your kids. There is nothing more destructive to a marriage as being divided on how the kids should be brought up or even allowing the kids to divide you by playing one against the other.

Some of the strongest marriages, believe it or not, are those where husband, wife, and kids are in a good, bible based church together. Don't knock it until you try it. It's worked for my wife and I for the past thirty two years. Hey, I'm a preacher. You can't expect me not to mention that.

Woodworking, The Ultimate Tranquilizer

Personally, I'm a man of few hobbies and plenty of interests. What I mean by that is I very seldom spend time just playing or tinkering. I guess that's called being goal oriented. Whatever it's called, I've tried a multitude of diversions like flying, reading, fishing, boating, farming, art, etc. and none ever seemed to fill the relaxation goal I was shooting for.

That is until I started doing carpentry. I started off just working with the basic tools like a hammer and saw. I had to build a book shelf so the family books wouldn't be cluttering the house. And it was a masterpiece to be sure if a square box with a shelf in the middle of the box can be considered a masterpiece. The thing is that I took note of how much I enjoyed this simple task and started looking for other things to build. I started asking my wife if she needed items built for the house and the "honey do" list started to compile. And with each project completed for my wife, I noticed the stress going out the window. And the cool part of it was that while I was playing with the carpentry tools, I was having a blast.

It's a scary thought guys, I know. A wife can sometimes make a to do list for you that would scare off even the bravest of souls. But that's how it began. But wives have buddies and if the word gets out, next thing you know other ladies and even buddies of your own are asking you to build things. Hey but that's OK, with the exception of my wife’s projects, I tend to pick and choose what I build.

My doctor was surprised at how my blood pressure has gone down as a result and my concentration has improved ten fold. It's possible I've even added years to my life just eliminating all that stress. It's not that I've stopped working and devoted all my time to the wood shop. No, I'm still a goal type of guy. I just have something I can look forward to after stress starts to build in my life.

Years have passed now since that first book case and I have built so many different things and accumulated so many different tools that I now have my own personal play house complete with all the toys. We are talking routers, various power saws, table saw, lathe, drill press, band saw, 6 varieties of drills, radial arm saw, power mitre saw, etc., etc., etc...
And just to let you know how diverse you can be with what you build, here's a list of just some of the things I've built over the years:
Water Wheels
Church Pulpits
Church Pews
Lords Supper Tables
Push Carts
Lawn Furniture
Gates and Fences
Car Consoles
Tool Boxes
And the list goes on and on.

An Architectural Blueprint, How To Read House Plans

Maybe you're looking for a job in a real estate office or as an assistant with a construction company. Or it could be that you have taken a job at a local builders supply and will be doing material take off's. These are just a few of the jobs where you need to have a familiarity with construction drawings. Facts are though, I'm not going to be able to tell you in just one article how to read a set of house plans. There is way too much to consider. What I can do is give you a basic overview to give you a head start.

The Floor Plan:

Imagine if you will, having a house and cutting into it horizontally with a knife. Once this is done, you are able to see the interior rooms or layout of the home. That's what the floor plan is. On a floor plan you have strings of dimensions that define the locations of the porches, decks, walls, windows, doors, etc. You will also have door and window sizes, floor coverings, ceiling heights and types, water heater, washer and dryer locations listed. Almost always included on the floor plan is a kitchen layout showing cabinet sizes and location. Bathrooms cabinets should be defined there too.

The Foundation or Basement Plan:

Same as the floor plan this is a view that is made by the same type of cut. Here you will find wall sizes and types, floor support posts or piers, floor support types such as trusses or joists, slab thickness, footing sizes, and wall openings that should all be defined by dimensions.

Electrical Plan:

Many designers and drafters include the electrical plan on the floor plan and some don't. What you will find on this plan is outlet locations, light fixture types and locations, smoke detectors, door bell, meter base and circuit panel.

Exterior Elevations:

These are the views of the house from the front, left, rear, right, and roof. This drawing usually defines exterior finishes, shutters, pediments, trim types, roof shingle materials, grade levels (where the exterior ground level meets the house), railing types and locations, etc. It should also include roof pitches which is defined by 12 inches horizontal X however many inches vertical to define the angle of the roof.

Sectional Details:

This drawing is also a knife cut illustration only on a vertical plane which shows things like insulation “R” factors, stud and header sizes, floor truss or joist sizes and spacing, floor and roof decking sizes, etc.

HVAC and Plumbing Plans:

These show the duct work and pipe locations along with pipe size for hot and cold water, and the fixtures and fitting types.

What's Needed For a Remodeling Drawing of Your House

Many house plans are drawn today where the drafter or designer is a long distance away. Most often it's because the process is being handled over the internet. If this be the case and you are having your house remodeled long distance, here are a few things that will get the ball rolling for you.

You will need to have the following:

a. Tape measure. 25' would be the best choice.
b. A pad of grid paper. 8 1/2" x 11" minimum.
c. A pencil.
d. A Digital Camera.

Step #1. They will need to know how the home is laid out. Go to each room of the house and measure the depth and width. Draw the rooms on the grid paper using the grid squares as a guide. If you are using small paper (8 1/2" x 11"), each grid will equal one foot (12"). Show the door openings and windows on the grid paper relative to their position in the room. If you draw in a door, place the width inside the opening. If it's a window, place the width then height (w x h) near the window. Where ever possible, photograph special items in the house that are hard to sketch. You will probably need to sketch the Kitchen and Bathroom in the same manner including the cabinets.

Step #2. Go to the exterior of the home and photograph the following views.

a. Front
b. Front Right Corner
c. Right Side
d. Right Rear Corner
e. Rear Side
f. Rear Right Corner
g. Left Side
h. Left Right Corner
i. Photo any special exterior item that is hard to sketch. Try your best to photo as much of the roof as possible.

Step #3. If your home is built on a foundation or basement it would be good to know what type of floor system you have. Take pictures of underneath the floor of your floor joists or trusses. Then measure the depth and spacing for me. If your house is on a slab, you can skip this step.

Step #4. Many municipalities require a site plan even with a remodeling. If this be the case you will need to get a copy of a surveyors plat or tax map showing the general location of your home on the property. It would be nice to know driveway and sidewalk sizes and locations too. Also the locations of any trees you are wanting to save or remove as a result of the remodeling.

Step #5. On a separate sheet of grid paper, sketch out what additions you are wanting to make to the home.

Step #6. Send these to the drafter or designer via mail or email and you have begun the process.

Tim Davis is a trained architectural designer who has drawn hundreds of remodeling drawings since the late 1980's. Visit his website at http://customhouseplans.8m.com for more details.

Tips for Using Article Marketing to Promote the Kingdom

Just about everything in the world is advertised and promoted online these days. This is because both individuals and businesses have learned the power of using the Web for strategic marketing. Certainly, the Web is powerful and it gets the message out - often for free. Article marketing is one such tool that can deliver - if it is done right.

For the believer in Christ, it is very important that the message of the Gospel be communicated, too - to every one. Through the Internet, believers have power to share their message with the world and also have that same ability to bless other believers, too, with a message of comfort or instruction. If you can write articles and are familiar with sound Biblical teaching, then you can have a part in this blessed ministry – and you can use article marketing to bless others around the world.

Here are some basic tips for writing articles for Christian article marketing:

Christian Articles Should Have a Clear Goal

Before you start to write out your article, you should have a good idea who you are trying to talk to, and what you want to accomplish by it. The business world always chooses these things carefully beforehand in all their marketing communications. Nothing is done haphazardly there - if they are professional.

Christian writing should always be for the edification (building up) of other believers. While this may sometimes include exhorting the brethren and exposing error, the end goal is still building and strengthening that which remains. Although there certainly are some differences in doctrine, those who are among the redeemed should have a heart to seek to major on strengthening believers – and this should result in some great articles that encourage and uplift.

Articles for Christ's Cause Need a Clear Message

Putting articles online for the cause of Christ and the blessing of other believers means that they should be written with a particular audience. For instance, if the article is about salvation, then it needs to give clear instructions as to why people need to be saved and how to be saved. The article should have more than just a marketing purpose.

Many Christian groups are currently spreading around a message that is often full of religious jargon – some may even have the best of intentions. While true believers understand terms like “born again,” “regenerated,” “grace,” and “works,” it should be remembered that those we are trying to reach may not have a clue. This is especially true if others read your articles from outside of the United States. These words must be explained in terms they understand – if your article is to truly be a blessing to them.

Articles for and about Christ Should Be Worthy of His Name

So, when you write a Christian article and use it in some way for Christian article marketing – whether you are promoting a business, a Christian business, the Gospel, or a ministry, let your marketing articles reflect the worthiness of the Name you proclaim. He is still infinitely holy and anything that He will use should reflect it. Remember that everything that is posted online can be seen by both believers and unbelievers alike. This means that your article promotion articles will result in either glory or shame to His precious Name.

Tithing

I had a Christian lady who I've known for years ask a question of me that I'd like to share with you:

Question:

A friend of mine is having financial problems and can't tithe like they would want to in the church. Normally I don't think that is a problem but the people at the Baptist Church they attend thinks that it is a problem. The church seems to require each member to report how much they are tithing and my friend and her husband just don't have the money to tithe. They put in what they can but it is making the other church members mad because they don't put in as much as the others. Is this right?

Answer:

Here is an event given from the Bible. Mark 12:41: And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much. 12:42 And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing. 12:43 And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury: 12:44 For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living.

Those people who are focusing on your friends are forgetting this story and probably haven't read the following scriptures: Phillipians 2:12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. 2:13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure. 2:14 Do all things without murmurings and disputings: 2:15 That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;

There is one other lesson the Lord had to teach Peter before He left to be with the Father: John 21:20 Then Peter, turning about, seeth the disciple whom Jesus loved following; which also leaned on his breast at supper, and said, Lord, which is he that betrayeth thee? 21:21 Peter seeing him saith to Jesus, Lord, and what shall this man do? 21:22 Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? follow thou me.

In other words we are to MIND OUR OWN BUSINESS in such matters!!!

Pastors, Beware Wolves In Sheeps Clothing

My dear brethren,

We are supposed to watch out for one another and to give a loud call if a wolf is trying to sneak into the sheepfold. That is a service we all should take seriously. So what I would like to do is give you some warning signs to look for so that a wolf doesn't come in and destroy your church.

1. If you have already identified a wolf then you are scripturally bound to tell other pastors who they are and what they are capable of. The Bible says: Romans 16:17 Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them. 16:18 For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.

2. When someone comes to you stating they wish to be part of your congregation, don't be afraid to ask questions. If they have a long list of churches they belonged to in the past, something may very well be wrong. Don't be afraid to contact former pastors and ask about their report. This isn't being a nosey pastor. This is making sure that a trouble making rascal doesn't come and cause a ruckus.

Even more, these may have already been removed from a congregation because they have caused trouble: 1st Corinthians 5:6 Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump? 5:7 Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:

3. If it's not already in your bylaws, ask that a six month or one year watch care be implemented for all new members. A watch care is a period of time before a new member can assume any office in the church. This is just plain prudence.

4. We want so dearly to fellowship with our fellow Christians who come to us from other denominations. This is not a fault. It can be an open door to confusion though. I am an old time Baptist and being such I am addressing my fellow Baptist brethren on this matter. If you allow a preacher, or anyone for that matter to come into your fold of another faith who doesn't hold the ancient teachings of the scripture you hold so dearly, you are inviting trouble. Sure, it could be that this brother has seen the error of their beliefs and want to be part of the old pathway. That has happened as I have seen it.

But there are times that their intentions are to change your church. The scriptures speak plainly about this too. 2nd Timothy 3:1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. 3:2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3:3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, 3:4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; 3:5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

When is a child accountable for their sins?

Lets start by saying that we are wrapped in a body that is corrupted by sin. It's natural for us to sin. A child, when they learn that something is not right and decides to do it anyway, they are sinning. James 4:17 Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

This child has to be taught that certain things are bad or forbidden or unacceptable. Otherwise they will do whatever they please. How many times have you been out somewhere in public and seen a little one throwing a temper tantrum or raising havoc and the parent seemingly not doing anything about it? God's word tells us that if we don't teach a child to do right, we actually are saying that we hate them. Proverbs 13:24 He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.

This doesn't mean that we are to take a telephone pole and beat them about the head and ears. We don't dare injure these little ones. Simply put, when you place your finger over a candles flame, you get burned and draw your hand away. Will you place your finger over it the second time? No, I don't think so. You have learned that this is something that you don't like and you probably won't want to do it again because it hurt! It's the same principle with paddling your child. We don't do it because we want to, but because we love the child and want them to remember that if they do this kind of behavior again, there is an unpleasant experience waiting on them. Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

Now, are they accountable to God for their sins? God has given this child to you to bring him or her up in the way they should go. That's why God ordained the family and placed the Father at the head and the Mother as his help mate! This is who that child is accountable to. And that Mother and Father are accountable to God. Ephesians 6:1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. 6:2 Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;) 6:3 That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth. 6:4 And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. The parent is accountable to God if he or she doesn't teach the child right from wrong.

Until this child learns that they are lost and undone and need Jesus as their Savior, they have not yet reached the age of accountability. Romans 4:15 Because the law worketh wrath: for where no law is, there is no transgression. They don't know that they are going against Gods law until they come to the understanding that they are.

If that child dies dies before the Holy Spirit convicts them of their sins, they will go to heaven. Luke 18:15 And they brought unto him also infants, that he would touch them: but when his disciples saw it, they rebuked them. 18:16 But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God. 18:17 Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein.

If you will indulge me for a minute, let me quote to you some words to a song that I can't remember the name of right now but they seem to fit. Its lyrics tell about some kids who get in trouble and the parents have to face the results of their kids actions:

Push the panic button. Call the doctor, call the preacher. Blame his generation, blame the high school teacher. Walk the floor and wring your hands and use God's name in vain. Then look into your heart and find the ones who are to blame!!!!!!!!

Strange Christian Articles On The Increase

You can't help but notice when searching for articles on Christian subjects such as end time prophecy, the results are astounding. People are seeing the events and the times and putting two and two together. It's amazing though the different takes on current events relating to the Bible. Even more so, how so many can be misled by all the theories and conjectures being presented over the internet.

End time prophecy may be number one on the list but at a close number two is articles about the charismatic movement which has swept the globe with it's supposed manifestations of miracles, prosperity, signs, tongues, healings, and wonders. It seems Christians are wanting to see more natural evidence of the end times and many times confusing these things for spiritual. And with these many signs and wonders you have greedy men who disguise themselves as shepherds who fleece the sheep of their hard earned money.

The scriptures plainly spoke of these things happening in the epistles to Timothy. The Apostle Paul wrote in his second letter to Timothy that in the last days, dangerous (perilous) times are coming. He went on to say that in this time people are going to be lovers of their own selves, have a great desire for wealth or possessions or for another's possessions (covetous). Also these folks would be braggarts, boasting about what they've done instead of what God has accomplished. Even more so they would be blasphemers, unthankful and unholy, disobedient to parents.

It gets even worse in his description when he says they are without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent (not able to control themselves), fierce, despisers of those that are good, traitors, heady (impetuous and rash), high minded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. Turn away means don't have anything to do with them.

Many are telling you that they need to tell you what God really is saying in the scriptures. Facts are that if a preacher is actually a God called man of God, he will speak to you directly from the bible without adding or subtracting from it. The best defense to keep from being deceived is to trust the Word of God for what it says. It isn't really a difficult thing to understand. If you are confused about what is in there, it's not God doing it because God isn't the author of confusion. He is the author of peace. And don't ever fall for the line that God didn't really mean what he said. That's just plumb foolishness.
