Tithing

I had a Christian lady who I've known for years ask a question of me that I'd like to share with you:

Question:

A friend of mine is having financial problems and can't tithe like they would want to in the church. Normally I don't think that is a problem but the people at the Baptist Church they attend thinks that it is a problem. The church seems to require each member to report how much they are tithing and my friend and her husband just don't have the money to tithe. They put in what they can but it is making the other church members mad because they don't put in as much as the others. Is this right?

Answer:

Here is an event given from the Bible. Mark 12:41: And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much. 12:42 And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing. 12:43 And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury: 12:44 For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living.

Those people who are focusing on your friends are forgetting this story and probably haven't read the following scriptures: Phillipians 2:12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. 2:13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure. 2:14 Do all things without murmurings and disputings: 2:15 That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;

There is one other lesson the Lord had to teach Peter before He left to be with the Father: John 21:20 Then Peter, turning about, seeth the disciple whom Jesus loved following; which also leaned on his breast at supper, and said, Lord, which is he that betrayeth thee? 21:21 Peter seeing him saith to Jesus, Lord, and what shall this man do? 21:22 Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? follow thou me.

In other words we are to MIND OUR OWN BUSINESS in such matters!!!
